天堂快播’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sarah Greer, has been appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the King's Birthday Honours List 2025 for services to higher education.
Since becoming Vice-Chancellor in January 2022, Professor Greer has led the University through a very challenging time for higher education, retaining a focus on high-quality education that empowers students to achieve their potential and make a meaningful contribution to society. The University has earned national recognition for graduate success, producing outstanding professionals in fields such as nursing, teaching, policing, business, and the creative arts.
Chair of the University’s Board of Governors, Mary Edwards, said “The Board, and whole University community, are delighted that all of Sarah’s work and achievements, over many years in the university sector, have been recognised by this award. The award is truly well-deserved.”
Professor Greer said: “I was surprised and honoured to receive this award. It is a reflection of all the outstanding, hard-working and committed colleagues with whom I have worked over many years in higher education. I have been privileged to work at universities that champion widening participation – ensuring that everybody who has the ability to succeed, whatever their background, can benefit from higher education. The need for a strong higher education sector has never been greater. It benefits and transforms not only the lives of individuals, but also of families, communities and society as a whole”.
Prior to joining Winchester, Professor Greer was Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Worcester, where she played a key role in developing the strategic vision for the University. Most notably during her time at Worcester, Professor Greer founded the University of Worcester School of Law and led the four-year project to create one of the UK’s newest medical schools, the Three Counties School of Medicine, a graduate entry medical school serving the three counties of Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire.
An English Literature graduate from the University of Cambridge, Professor Greer qualified as a chartered accountant and later as a barrister, completing pupillage with the Treasury Solicitor. She is a Professor of Law and a National Teaching Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Professor Greer has held several public appointments, including as a General Commissioner for the Disabled Students’ Commission, where she advanced support for disabled students in higher education.
